Lev. 19:1-2, 11-18; Ps. 19:7-14; Matt. 25:31-46

A few weeks ago, my son had his birthday party at an indoor rock climbing facility.  I decided to give rock climbing a try.  As you might suspect, I came away from the experience with sore muscles I didn’t know existed, but I also came away with a greater understanding of faith.

To me, the climb that required the most faith was the auto-belay.  Unless you’re a climbing enthusiast, you’re probably wondering what in the world an auto-belay is.  It’s just a fancy term that means that the rope that is attached to your safety harness is also attached to a machine in the ceiling.  You can’t really see this machine, but it’s supposed to slowly lower you to the ground when you fall.  I was skeptical to say the least, but I gave it a try.

As I was making those tenuous first moves up the wall, I couldn’t help but think of our faith journey as Christians.  Have you ever had to climb a “wall” in your life?  Maybe you didn’t know where you were going or how you were going to get there.  That’s okay.  As I continued making one small move after another, my path became clearer and eventually I made it to the top.  Did I fall along the way? Of course I did.  We are ALL going to fall.  Jesus doesn’t promise us that we will never fall.  He promises us that he will catch us if we put our trust in Him.

Take a moment to think of a “wall” you’re climbing in your life right now.  Jesus is there to catch you if you only let Him.
