The Bible, which provides the ideological foundation for Western civilization, states “So God created man in his own image. In the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blest them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth…’”
I am well aware that today there are many who are unhappy about the biblical foundations of our culture and are out to change them. The way to do this is to chip away at the moral structure of a society and call into question once held moral precepts, one at a time, until the foundations give way. This has been done before during the Russian revolution where the first actions of the new atheist government were to outlaw marriage and undercut the entire biblical foundations of the prevailing culture. It did not work very well because the order of the home and family is a construct of the creation itself and the attempt to destroy it brings destructive elements upon the culture which will eventually become intolerable.
Our sexuality is written indelibly in every cell of our body. Females have double x chromosomes and males have a xy chromosome. There are other distinguishing features of course, but this one can hardly be tampered with. It is used by archaeologists and paleontologists to identify bodies hundreds, or even thousands of years old.
The contemporary media have made us aware that there is some confusion concerning this simple fact of human existence. Homo sapiens (thinking man) are not only sexual beings, they are thinking beings. Other animals have sex and do sex, but they cannot think about it. Human, created in the image of God, can think about their sexuality and this allows them to be confused, especially in their youth.
I would suggest that this is due to the fact that societies often tie temperament, talent and tendencies to sexuality which is a huge mistake. It is, of course, true that men are usually more task oriented than women and women are usually more relationally oriented than men, but it is not an absolute. Every individual is a unique blend of characteristics that make them unlike anyone else, and this has no essential bearing on sexuality.
There are women who like to play football and men who like to knit. There are little girls who like to dive into a hole in the ground to explore an ice cave and boys who are very reluctant to do so. I have a daughter like that. Of course once she went down the hole in the ground the boy scouts on top felt they had to follow, and they did.
Confusion comes when a young person feels they are different. We all are different. That is the wonder of being created in the image of an infinite God. However, there are ideologues that are anxious to use this confusion to break down the moral structure of the social order. They exploit rather than instruct because they are not interested in the welfare of the confused person, whether young or older, but how they can be politically useful. The use of the concept of “tolerance” is obscene. These folks are not interested in tolerance but in power.
It is time for homo sapiens to begin to think. If we do not we will be trained by those who are adept at manipulating the confused.
