Gen. 2: 4b, 15-17; Ps. 51:11-18; Lk.11:29-32

My personal spiritual journey has been a lot like an Experienced Level knitting project.  Knitting projects using advanced techniques and stitches, such as cables, lace patterns, and numerous color changes are considered Experienced Level and are always complex and challenging.

This difficult personal knitting project of mine was started a long time ago.  Over the years, much progress has been made but a lot more time and energy must be committed before this project will ever be complete.  There have been periods of time when much was accomplished, but there were times when my project sat dormant, as I busied myself with other stuff.

People who taught me how to knit and helped me with this project include my dad, my husband, my grandmother, several mentors and lots and lots of friends and colleagues.  They showed up at different times in my life.  But, as God would have it, they showed up exactly when I needed them, helping me knit together a wonderful spiritual journey.  My dad and grandmother mirrored the life of Christ for me, my husband encouraged me, several people held me accountable and many others taught me important lessons on leadership, shepherding and pastoral care.

I made lots of progress with my project during two different times in my life.  The first time was when I found Jesus, and the second time was when God planted in my heart the desire to attend seminary.  While my knitting project is coming along quite nicely, I am always ready and excited to add a few more rows and learn a few more stitches so I can serve God is a more glorious way.
