Matthew 1:18-23; Matthew 28:18-19

GOD WITH US:  THE TUG OF OUR HEARTS

The Gospel of Matthew ends where it begins with a wonderful promise, a promise to be with us.  This promise is fulfilled in Jesus who came down so that we could come to Him.

But, we are not only called to come, we are commanded to go.  While, it may scare us to think of who and where and how we are to go for Him, He gave us this assurance before He ascended, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age!”

A young boy was flying a kite on a breezy day at the beach.  He let out more and more string as the wind flew the kite higher and higher.  It soared so high that the kite soon became hidden among the fluffy clouds.

A man came by and asked, “What are you doing holding on to that string?”

The boy replied, “Sir, I am flying a kite!”

The man looked up and said, “I don’t see it up there.”

The boy responded with great confidence, “Well, I know it’s up there because I can feel the tug on the string.”

The clouds of our circumstances and daily challenges may obscure God’s presence in our lives but we can be sure He is there.  God promises to be with us and He continually tugs at our hearts, letting us know He is with us, with us always, to the very end!  Let us take comfort that He is with us in every situation.  Let us have courage to continue to heed Jesus’ call to come, and His command to go.
