1 Sam. 16:1-13; Ps. 28; Eph. 5:8-14; Jn. 9:1-41
Among my earliest childhood memories was church attendance with family. My parents and I attended my grandparents’ churches.
During my preschool years, my parents bought a home in the Palma Ceia area of Tampa and they joined the Palma Ceia Baptist Church, the church in which I grew up. My parents were very active in the church – my mother as director of the church nursery and my father as director of the RAs (a boys’ mission organization). This was my most important and best example of adults leading children in Christian education. There were many other dedicated adult examples – Sunday school teachers, Training Union leaders (on Sunday evenings) and GA leaders (a girls mission organization). As a result of their influences and teachings, I accepted Jesus as my personal Savior at the age of eight.
As I grew in my Christian life, I felt directed by the Holy Spirit to become a teacher. While I was in high school, I began teaching Sunday school and continued teaching while in college. When I graduated and began my teaching career, teaching Sunday school was still an important part of my Christian growth. Like all Christians, I felt the guidance of the Holy Spirit in my career. A verse that guided me and continues to guide me is Matthew 18:10 where Jesus says, “See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.”
I am blessed as a member of Bayshore Baptist to still teach children in Sunday school and learn from their joy in the Lord!
