Psalm 72:1-14

His Love Endures Forever

When I read these words of Messianic prophesy, I’m reminded and comforted by the truth that God is immutable. So much of our lives are instant, changing, disposable. Are eggs healthy? Who knows. Will a new iPhone be released the week after I buy the last? Probably.

God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He never changes. His love and reign endures as long as the sun, as long as the moon, through all generations. We can count on Him to always be holy, good, faithful, loving, and to hate sin. This is also true of His word, the Bible. Often prophecy has a future and a more future fulfillment. In Psalm 72 David prays for his son Solomon’s immediate kingdom and leadership but also speaks prophetic words describing the coming Messiah from the line of David. Jesus is the eternal light in a dark, broken world revealing the God who loves and created us.

It was true 1,000 years before his birth and it’s still true 2,000 years after his death.  He calls his followers to shine the same light in the broken places for the needy, the weak, the oppressed, the hurting. Shine on.
