Waiting for the Light

Many of the prophets of the Old Testament foretold the coming of the Messiah who would reunite Israel for all time. They waited and waited for this to happen. Finally, God spoke through an angel to a young maiden and revealed to her that she would facilitate this event.

Mary may not have truly understood what was about to take place according to the angel, but she accepted what he said. Mary went to see her cousin Elizabeth to tell her the news. When she saw Elizabeth’s reaction when greeting Mary (her child jumped in her womb), Mary knew how special she was going to be. Mary’s son was from God. She would be remembered and revered as the Mother of Jesus. The “waiting” would be over. Jesus was the “Light” the Jews were waiting for all those years.

Nowadays, for us, the “Light” has come. Jesus was born, lived, died, and rose again so that we may experience that “Light” and Life with Him forever.
