John 8:12, Mark 5:14

“I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” (RSV)

“You are the light of the world.” (RVS)

Reflection

In John, it says that Jesus is the light of the world and in Matthew, it says we are the light of the world.  How can this be?  I came to understand the answer by using the simple physics laws that relate to light:  almost all the things we see do not generate their own light. Most of what we see is reflected light and the color we see is the portion of light not absorbed.

In the same manner, Jesus is indeed the singular source of light of the world and we are His reflection to those who see us.  So, how much of Jesus do you reflect?  During this Christmas season, take the time to reflect Jesus’ light.  I think this is one of the reasons we are here on earth.
