You do you!

Romans 12:1

YOU DO YOU!

Not so long ago, I stumbled upon an article about the invention of a “not so famous” wallpaper cleaner by Noah McVicker.  Initially, the wallpaper cleaner was a success but by post World War II, its usefulness diminished.  One day, a McVicker family member saw a newspaper article about a teacher who was using the substance for class art projects.  Ding, Ding, Ding!!! This new way of looking at the product dramatically altered the trajectory of the product’s usefulness.  The name of the product is “Play-Doh.”  Have you heard of it?

You might be saying – interesting fact, but why is this relevant to me?  Do you ever spend time thinking about your life’s purpose or your usefulness?  Are you living your life like wallpaper cleaner or “Play-Doh”?  For me, sometimes life’s choices can overwhelm me or worse, paralyze me.  Have you ever felt that way?  Do you think you have to make extreme changes or choices to be useful in God’s kingdom?

The components of the wallpaper cleaner and Play-Doh were the same but their usefulness was dramatically different.  Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

You are God’s handiwork – if you are not feeling that, I challenge you to revisit your perspective.  The components may not need to be changed, maybe just the outlook does.  By reevaluating your daily choices regarding your career, relationships, and interests, you may find that God has a purpose for you that you have been missing.  It may not be as complicated as you think.
