New Year. New You. The Path to Your Truest Self

The Gospel tells us that because of Jesus, we have been made into new creations.  Too often the changes that come to our lives as Christians are simply the addition of new behaviors or what sometimes feels like “Christians busyness.”  But what if our lives could be transformed into something greater?  What would it mean to be made new, to be formed into Christ’s image and to discover our truest self in the process?  Journey with us for this Sunday morning worship series, New Year. New You. as we seek to become the best versions of ourselves by finding our true self in Christ.

The Essentials of the Christian Faith

“In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity” – Saint Augustine

What do Christians believe?  What is the least someone can believe and still be a Christian?  How do we know when something is an essential belief or a non-essential matter of faith?  How do we as Christians seek unity in our beliefs while leaving room for diverse expressions of Christian faith?  How do we practice charity (or love) in all things?  With St. Augustine’s charge as our guide, join us for an in-depth conversation on the most essential beliefs of the Christian faith.  On Wednesdays at 6:30 pm, we will seek to better understand that which is most important about Christianity while letting go of that which is not.

Conversations will include:

The Bible – It’s overarching themes, narrative, and how God still speaks to us through scripture.

Salvation – What it means to be saved by grace and profess faith in Jesus Christ.

Baptism – The public symbol of faith and initiation into the Church.

Communion – How Christ is present at the table.

The Church – The importance of Christian community.

Discipleship – Moving beyond church attendance to a life that is transformed into the image of Christ.

Sources of Faith – The role of tradition, experience, and reason in the Christian life.

The Trinity – Understanding the relational nature of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

Opportunities to ask questions about other important topics.
